Sending your resume to HR on LinkedIn DM won’t get you hired

Sending your resume to HR on LinkedIn DM won’t get you hired.

But almost everyone still does it.

You send a message like:

“Hi, please find my resume attached.”

Hoping something happens.

Maybe accidentally you get shortlisted.

Sorry.

Nothing happens accidentally on LinkedIn.

If the approach is wrong,
your effort will be wasted.

Think about this.

Imagine you are HR in a big company.

How many DMs would you receive every month?

100?
500?
1000?

Is it possible to open and respond to every single one?

Not really.

Because HR is human.

And most of the time,

They are not expecting resumes in their DMs.

So what should you do instead?

- Connect with or follow HR from your target companies.
- Do not send your resume in the first message.
- Do not ask for anything immediately.
- Engage genuinely with their posts.
- Comment consistently and show up.

When that HR posts a relevant job opening:

Then act.

Tailor your resume to match the role.

In the previous post, we talked about networking with the Head of Department (HOD).

If you already have the HOD in your network,

You can politely message them:

Mention that you saw the opening.
Explain that the requirements match your experience.
Ask if they can guide you to the right person or team.

If trust already exists,

They may even refer you directly.

In your networking strategy:

Use HR as a job source.

Not your first contact point.

In the next post, we’ll finish this networking strategy series with:

• Networking with CEOs / Founders
